“Thaetre” Theory after the Postdramatic Theatre
Hans-Thies Lehmann (1944-2022) was probably the most influential theater scholar of his generation. His publication “Postdramatic Theater” has made epoch worldwide as dramaturgy of experimental theater at the end of the 20th century. But where are we today, almost 25 years after its publication? Postcolonial and queer theory, a new sensitivity to non-human action, new ways of thinking about technology and the organization of the institution, and an ecocritical questioning of theater: a multitude of new problems and questions tie in with Lehmann’s reflections, but often also illuminate them in a completely new way. Following the opening of “Theater der Welt”, artists and scholars will discuss dramaturgies of the 21st century together with the audience against the background of Lehmann’s theory.
