‘Scoop’ is an enchanting theatrical journey for the very youngest children and their carers. A shielded environment that resembles a cozy tent provides a space where a small group can have learning experiences for all the senses. The play works with simple objects such as spoons, bowls, and cloths. By interacting directly with the babies, the performers show in an innovative way how contact can be made with very young people and exchanges can be conducted on various sensual levels. Using objects, lighting, sounds and polyphonic singing, the play amazes both big and little people alike! At the same time, small children are a remarkable audience: they go to sleep when they want to, watch with interest, or crawl across the blanket. With ‘Scoop’, the theater-maker and poet Koleka Putuma has directed South Africa’s first play for babies.
On July 9 at 6:00 PM, artists Koleka Putuma and Darren O’Donnell (Mammalian Diving Reflex) will meet in conversation at Hafen 2 in Offenbach.
