Flickering lights, torches, an evening cityscape, a spontaneous gathering: at dusk the city transforms itself into an area of intergenerational possibilities, where they can get to know and listen to each other. In nightwalks, young people guide groups of adults to places in Offenbach that mean something to them. This project by the Canadian collective Mammalian Diving Reflex was devised in collaboration with young people from Offenbach and Frankfurt. It explores the city from their perspectives and asks: where can we meet, where can we hang out for a long time, where can we listen to music, chat and where can we just do nothing? ‘Nightwalks with Teenagers’ opens up new ways of looking at a city we think we know and examines familiar environments for hidden conditions, potential and desires.

On July 9 at 6:00 PM, artists Koleka Putuma and Darren O’Donnell (Mammalian Diving Reflex) will meet in conversation at Hafen 2 in Offenbach.

About the Artist(s)

Mammalian Diving Reflex was founded in Toronto in 1993. At first, the group produced stage plays by Darren O’Donnell. Since 2006, its work has taken place predominantly in public spaces, combining social practices and performance. The Canadian collective regularly works with non-artists and brings together people from a range of socio-cultural backgrounds. Here the audience is regarded as an active participant in the artistic work: providing space for people who would rarely meet under normal circumstances..
