Whether it is night obscuring day, or the unease associated with what we cannot see or foresee – many people are afraid of the dark. ‘It’s Going to Get Dark’ is the title of the latest theater work by Samara Hersch, in which a remarkable cast of young people and seniors meet to listen to each other in the dark and begin an unexpected conversation. The performance seeks out connections and tensions between the generations, as they reflect on how life and identities are shaped by time. Can darkness be a space that strengthens curiosity, intimacy, resilience, and solidarity?

About the Artist(s)
The theater maker Samara Hersch divides her time between the Netherlands and Naarm (Melbourne). In her artistic practice contemporary performance intersects with social engagement. She devises formats in which non-professional performers and audiences encounter each other in unlikely and intimate settings. With works such as ‘Sex and Death’ (2016), ‘We All Know What’s Happening’ (2018) and ‘Body of Knowledge’ (2019), she has been focusing on intergenerational exchange. Hersch studied at DAS Theater in Amsterdam and is currently Artist in Residence at the production house Theater Rotterdam.
